The Wii, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 skirmish isn't the only format war going on in the tech world these days. There's also a tussle between Toshiba's HD-DVD and Sony's Blu-ray formats to be the high-definition-ready successor to the DVD.
Another shot was fired on both fronts this week, as a veritable posse of movie studios and consumer electronics companies jointly announced a summer sales promotion to drive sales of Blu-ray players. From July 1 to September 30, customers who purchase qualifying Blu-ray players--yes, the PS3 qualifies--will receive five free Blu-ray movies from a list of 21 choices.
See? The PS3 does count as a Blu-Ray player...but is it a game system?
