Sure, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a popular game but just how well would the game perform on a console that Nintendo seems more than happy to share equally between the hardcore and the casual? Let us clear things up with charts and flashy colors.
The graph you see in the top right corner of this post can be a little bit confusing at first glance but allow me to simplify things. The first two bars on the left represent the life to date (LTD) sales of Super Smash Bros. (N64) and Super Smash Bros. Melee (GCN) respectively in the United States. The final bar represents Wii's addition to the franchise and its sales are also LTD for the US, but things become a little more surprising when you consider that while the original Smash Bros. and Melee have been out for years while Brawl's numbers come only from the month of March 2008.
After one month on store shelves Super Smash Bros. Brawl has already managed to outsell the original game but it is also 70% of the way to matching the US sales of Super Smash Bros. Melee, the GameCube's best selling title.
If Brawl can keep this up, which we believe it will, it should not only eclipse the sales of the previous Smash Bros. games but could become Wii's best seller when you consider that the game has yet to see the light of day outside of Japan and North America.
