Recent reports have suggested that Nintendo's newest addition to the Mario Kart, Mario Kart Wii, has apparently managed to sell over 300,000 copies in Japan on its first day of release. According to the website Jeux France, the new title managed to score these high sales numbers after being released for just 24 hours.
Jeux France doesn't clearly state where they got these figures from so there is no way to confirm these numbers official and for all we know the game could have not even managed 50,000 copies, but that would be doubtful. Not to mention that players have reported that there has never been a lack of online matches.
Based on these numbers Mario Kart Wii hadn't managed to beat Super Smash Bros. Brawl's first day sales of 500,000 units. Mario Kart Wii still has a lot of catching up to do as Brawl managed to sell around 820,000 copies by the end of its debut week. While there is always the possibility, albeit a tiny one, that Mario Kart could outsell Brawl in the long run it would be safe to assume that many are still working off their Brawl hangovers.
