Rumor: Nvidia powers new DS

This is a serious rumor so take it lightly. Sources have revealed that Nvidia has finally managed to sway long time IBM and ATI customer Nintendo and has apparently won a contract to provide their graphics chip for the company's next generation Nintendo DS.

According to sources, the Tegra chip (currently powering the Zune HD) will be chosen as a single core over the current DS' two ARM core setup. The chip would also be backwards compatible with current DS games and accessories. It would also significantly boost the power of the next DS model seeing as how the lower end Tegra chip has a clock speed of 600MHz (compared to the current DS cores which clock in at a measly 67MHz and 37MHz). Considering the late supposed announcement of this partnership, Nintendo may very well opt to go for the next generation of Tegra chips which use GeForce 9 technology. Nvidia stands to make over half a billion USD on this deal over the course of the lifespan of the new DS.

Sources point to a 2010 reveal of the next generation DS (Tokyo Games Show 2010?).
