1. What is Super Smash Bros. Brawl?

Brawl is upcoming sequel to the popular Super Smash Bros. Series. The Super Smash Bros. series was introduced 1999 on the N64. It featured Nintendo characters from all a variety of games. The characters were then controlled by a player and fought against each other on different stages modeled after areas in many popular series. This fighting had the simplest of controllers of any other fighting game, which hedged fun over competitiveness.

In 2001, a sequel to the original was released on the Nintendo Gamecube, and was considered a huge improvement from its predecessor. This game featured 11 new playable characters and many new stages.

The next Super Smash Bros. game will be released on the Nintendo Wii. This sequel will again feature new characters and stages, and new abilities for each character. Brawl is the first game in the Smash Bros. Series to support gaming over WiFi and the first to feature at least one character that isn't owned by Nintendo. Back to Top

2. When will it be released?

Nintendo had announced at E3 05, the same year they announced the Revolution (as they called it then), that the game would be originally released at launch, but then at E3 06 they announced it would be released early 2007, mostly likely Q1 of 2007. Back to Top

3. How much will it cost?

Though many retailers are setting preorder prices for SSBB at $59.99, Nintendo has announced that first party titles will not be above $50. Back to Top

4. What characters are confirmed?

Mario- the fire ball throwing plumber from the Super Mario series. He has been featured in both games and is as always a well-rounded character.

Link- the hero of the Legend of Zelda series is a Hylian swordsman who has appeared as a fighter in both previous Super Smash Bros. games.

Samus/Zamus (Zero-Suit Samus) - the heroine of the Metroid series, appears in both previous Super Smash Bros. games. She returns in Brawl not just in her Power Suit, but also as Zero Suit Samus, which is based on her unsuited form from Metroid: Zero Mission. She loses her suit under special conditions which remain unknown.

Kirby- the main character of the Kirby series and has appeared in both Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Melee. Unique as having the ability to suck opponents into his mouth and swallow them, taking on aspects of that character's appearance and copying one of that character's signature attacks.

Pikachu- the unofficial mascot of the Pok?n series, and has appeared in both previous Super Smash Bros. games.

Meta-knight- a recurring character from the Kirby series, and is the second of the series to become a Super Smash Bros. fighter. In the trailer shown at E3 2006, he can be seen performing quick sword strikes and blocking an attack with his cloak, which blends into the background.

Pit- the hero of Kid Icarus makes his first playable appearance since the 1991 Game Boy game Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters. He can separate his bow into two separate swords.

Wario- Mario's rival and star of the WarioWare, Inc. and Wario Land games, makes his first playable appearance in the series. His appearance is based on his WarioWare costume.

Snake- the main character from Konami's Metal Gear franchise is the first third-party character to become a Super Smash Bros. fighter. His appearance is taken directly from MGS2. We did not see any of his move set, but Nintendo has said he will use explosives and hand to hand combat.

Fox McCloud- is the main character of the Star Fox series. He appeared in both Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Melee, and, as confirmed on November 3, 2006, at the Nintendo World Tour, he makes a return in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.[3] Very little information has been released about him as of yet, but it is shown that he will use his blaster like in the two previous Smash Bros Games. Fox's look has been heavily redone for Brawl, and he now appears closer to his design in Star Fox Command.

5. Will I really be able to use Snake from Metal Gear Solid?

Snake will be joining the cast as the first third party character to compete on a Super Smash Bros. title. Back to Top

6. What about Sonic the Hedgehog?
While Nintendo knows that Sonic is the most requested addition to the Smash Bros. game, Nintendo has announced that they have not yet Back to Top

7. Will all of the former characters be returning?

It is rumored that Pichu, Mr. Game & Watch, and the Ice Climbers will be dropped from the cast of characters in the next Super Smash Bros. game. It is also said that the replacements would be Cel-Shades/Wind Waker Link, Ridley, and Bowser Jr., but again, this is strictly from the rumor mill! Back to Top

8. Will returning characters retain their abilities?

Of the returning characters shown in the preview, their "A", "B", and "Smash" attacks are for the most part intact, being modified only graphically. Back to Top

9. Will there be new abilities?

The video from E3 suggests the new ability to perform special moves, tentatively referred to as "Super Smash" moves in this article (there is yet to be an official name announced). These abilities are acquired through orb-shaped power-ups which bear the Super Smash symbol.

The trailer shows Mario's, Link's, and Kirby's Super Smash attacks. Mario, who is the only one seen in the trailer actually grabbing a Smash Orb, invokes a large blast of fire, Link performs a barrage of sword slashes while Mario is trapped between two Triforce symbols, and Kirby uses his "Cook" ability from Kirby Super Star and Kirby and the Amazing Mirror to boil Mario in a pot. Back to Top

10. Will there be new items?

The E3 trailer also shows footage of a puppy from Nintendogs attempting to climb around on the screen, blocking the view of the battle. Although Nintendo has confirmed that this is caused by an item, the actual item was not shown in the trailer. Back to Top

11. Will there be new stages?

Although unconfirmed, the current trailer suggests that new stages will include the interior and exterior of a gloomy castle, the Halberd, Meta Knight's airship from Kirby Super Star, and an island floating high above a rocky canyon. It should be noted however, that in the first trailers for Super Smash Bros. Melee, originally shown at E? 2001, a number of levels that turned out to either not be in the final game at all, or were heavily modified, could be seen. It was revealed by Nintendo Power that Hideo Kojima is developing a Metal Gear course himself. Back to Top

12. Wii SSBB make use of the Wiimote?

Nintendo has stated that due to the complexity of the wiimote's abilities, SSBB will utilize the Gamecube controller and possibly even the classic controller. Back to Top

13. What is the game rated?

At this time, the rating is currently pending. Back to Top

14. Will I be able to create my own character?

It is rumored that SSBB will feature Create-A-Character and Customization of characters, but nothing is confirmed. Back to Top

15. I heard that the stage will change depending on the items used!

While not exactly a question, this has been rumored. Speculation on forums suggest that stages would destructible terrain that will burn, blow up or even crumble away, but again, this has not be confirmed. Back to Top

16. Can I preorder the game yet?

Yes! EB is offering it for preorder here. Gamestop is offering SSBB here. Back to Top

17. Will I be able to play online?

Yes! Nintendo has confirmed that online play through the Wii's WiFi will be enabled for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. However, it is rumored that Nintendo will eliminate any rankings features to keep SSBB's focus on fun. Back to Top
