US VC Relases 21st April, 2008
Posted by: SexyCappin-Y  - 04-19-2008 02:54 PM - Replies (3)
This week isn't very surprising. The VC receives a classic retro beat 'em up and a famous RPG of a great series. It was revealed mid-week that the US was in for 3 weeks of classic beat 'em ups in the form of Double Dragon, River City Ransom and Renegade. The PAL VC update last week included Phantasy Star III so it comes as no surprise to see it in the US this week.

Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom (SEGA Mega Drive - 800 Wii Points)
Phantasy Star III follows a young Okarian prince called Rhys 1000 years after the great battle between Okaria and Laya. During the marriage ceremony between Rhys and the beautiful Maya; Maya gets kidnapped. Rhys has to find his loved one's kidnappers. Random turn based battles occur in which you can perform simple moves or special moves which require 'Technique Points'. It is a nice solid RPG and although it may not be the best of the series it is a nice addition to the Virtual Console which is starved for RPGs.

River City Ransom (NES - 500 Wii Points)
Released two months ago on the PAL Virtual Console the classic beat  'em up makes its way to North America. The game takes place in River City and follows the story of two late teens Alex and Ryan. The heroes find a note on Ryan's locker which claims that his girlfriend, Cyndi has been kidnapped and River City has been taken over by evil gangs. It's down to our heroes to kick butt and take names as they clean up River City. With co-op play and a variety of weapons that include brass knuckles, tire and chain whip River City Ransom is a great addition to anyone's Wii console.

If you like these...
Phantasy Star II (SEGA Mega drive/Genesis - 800 Wii Points)
Paper Mario (Nintendo 64 - 1000 Wii Points)
Breath of Fire II (SNES - 800 Wii Points)
Streets of Rage 2/3 (SEGA Mega Drive - 800 Wii Points)

The Virtual Console is updated at 9AM PST.
