A rumor had been circulating around the internet for a couple days now that employees of the Nintendo 2nd party developer Retro Studios who had been key in developing the Metroid Prime series on the GameCube and Wii had left the company. IGN has now confirmed this to be true as lead designer Mark Pacini (pictured), engineer Jack Mathews, and art director Todd Keller as they no longer have any ties to Retro or Nintendo.
No reason has yet been given for their sudden departure from a company in which they developed one of the GameCube's and Wii's greatest titles in Metroid Prime. The rumors had also suggested that Retro Studios would be closing its doors but this turned out to be false as Retro is still in business and will continue working on future Nintendo projects. It is unknown what Pacini, Mathews, or Keller will do in the future or if they have any plans to create their own studio.
