Even though it doesn't really do much for the system, the latest firmware update (3.15) which was previously optional has now been updated to mandatory. The new firmware allows you to play some Minis on your PS3 (as opposed to just the PSP) and allows you to transfer data directly between two PS3 consoles (with a Ethernet cable) such as save data and media.
