Most of you have probably heard of Fatal Frame IV a game developed by Techmo and published by Nintendo. The game was originally set for a worldwide release but has since then been scaled back to a release solely in Japan. Well thanks to Homebrew and a team at the Fatal Frame IV fansite Beyond the Camera's Lens, those of us who don't speak Japanese can finally play this game.
The team has released a patch that is loaded via the Homebrew Channel that loads a 100% English translation to the text of the entire game. And since this is homebrew, any Wii from any region can take advantage of this hack. Due to the nature of the hack, only real copies of Fatal Frame IV can be used, no back-ups can be loaded. The patch currently weighs in at just under 400MB and can be used on any Wii firmware.
This just goes to show the power of the homebrew scene on the Wii when combined with truly dedicated fan base. Perhaps if this spurs enough sales from sites like Play-Asia, Nintendo will see that there is a market for these types of games and that Wii owners are willing to translate the games themselves if Nintendo does not provide.
