How many times have we heard of developers creating the first game in a series, starting from the offset of the project planning for sequels? Developer Quantic Dream's founder David Cage is trying to change all that. According to him, there are no current plans for a sequel to upcoming PS3 exclusive Heavy Rain.
According to Cage, "I don't want to do a sequel because I've said what I had to say about these characters and this story. Honestly, I have nothing else to say."
But will he get his way? Sizable downloadable content is already planned for Heavy Rain, but Cage says that the best option is to move onto new projects. Yet time and time again we've seen publishers demanding sequels to games that have sold well on the market. Goichi Suda, developer of the Wii game No More Heroes, even admitted that there originally were no plans for the upcoming No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle, yet "when the title did well, sequels do happen."
Will David Cage get his way with Heavy Rain? And if the title sells well and the studio refuses to do a sequel, would another developer be brought in to continue the series? Only time will tell.
