[360, PS3, PC] GTA IV Episodes Heading to PS3 and PC
Posted by: Foxy  - 01-29-2010 03:14 PM - Replies (10)

GTA IV was one of the largest hits of this generation, selling over 13 million copies world wide. Since the release two extra episodes were released, The Lost and Damned, and The Balled of Gay Tony. They were released over Live and were bundled together in a standalone disc, previously exclusive to the Xbox 360 console but are now making their way to the PS3 and PC in March 2010

Grand Theft Auto IV was widely anticipated as one of the greatest games of all time, it was released in April 2008 for the Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles and sold 3.7 million copies in its first day, 6 million within its first week and overall 13 million as of March 2009. Through ranking site Metacritic it is currently the second highest rated game of all time.

One of the key features of this generation of consoles is the online services and Rockstar announced they intended to release 2 extra chapters that link into the Grand Theft Auto IV storyline. These chapters were announced as exclusives for the Xbox Live service, despite the games popularity on the PS3 and PC also. It was revealed that Microsoft paid $50 million for these episodes, they were branded as Live exclusives.

In February 2009 The Lost and Damned was released, following the story of biker gang The Lost, it went on to sell over 1 million. The second episode The Balled of Gay Tony was released in October 2009, following Luiz as the right hand man to night club owner Gay Tony. Both required the original GTA IV disc to play. The titles were released on a standalone disc for those who didn't have the original or don't have the Live service, Episodes from Liberty City was released with both chapters on. This then went on to sell around 1.2 million in world wide.

Today Rockstar announced that the episodes will be heading to the Playstation 3 for a price of $39.99 in March, with the separate episodes heading to the PSN for $19.99 each. They'll also be coming to the PC.

"It's been a long time coming, but we are proud to finally deliver Episodes From Liberty City for the PC and PlayStation 3," said Sam Houser. "We appreciate the patience of our PlayStation 3 and PC fans worldwide, and we look forward to putting the games in your hands this March."

So, what happened to that $50 million that Microsoft paid? Was the reason that the title was under performing or was it a timed exclusive all along? Your comments, as always, are greatly appreciated!
