11 million Wiis before the end of Q4 now a reality
With the original figure of 6 million Wiis before the end of Q4 (March 31, 2006), many people questioned if it would even sell out. According to Briefing.com (subscription needed) Nintendo had already produced 2 million Wii consoles during Q3 to avoid shortages for, what was at the time planned to be, a world wide launch. Briefing.com goes on to say that at least 7 million to 9 million more Wiis are planned to be at least built, if not shipped, before the new year. This was announced on the heels of the rumors claiming that the PS3 would be launched later than expected.
None of this has been made official by Nintendo and many people had no idea that Nintendo was producing consoles as early as July, and still has the label of "rumor" all over it. If it is true however, that means that Nintendo could be shipping more units at launch then was originally planned.
