If you didn't bring a DS, expect a long night. At least the poor soul without one next to me in line can get some play time on mine while I type out this news report. That's right viewers, WiiLoaded is reporting from the front lines tonight.
What started as a line for the Toys R Us reserves of PlayStation 3's and Nintendo Wii's looks more like a makeshift Halloween party. Lawn chairs and sleeping bags grace the sidewalk. Cards and DS Lan games keep everyone entertained. People of all ages have been lining up since 2pm Saturday to secure their console this holiday season (some areas are reporting Friday afternoon lines). Many are nothing more than video game early adopters, but the crowd is sure to be peppered with entrepreneurs looking to make a quick buck on eBay.
From the numbers we are getting, the 4 available PS3 reservations at my local store have been taken since early afternoon, but after arriving at 11pm, we managed to grab the 7th Wii position (of 20). Of course, more have been filtering in since then. If you're planning on showing up an hour before they open, you can pretty much forget it. The daylight savings time correction adds extra time to the clock, and the fact that Toys R Us opens at noon on Sunday means the 20 reservation spots will fill up much sooner than that!
Now if you'll excuse me, I need my thumbs for another 12 hours for some intense Tetris action.
Update - The line got quite long, and the Toys R Us staff started moving the line just after 11, one hour early. I managed to snap a picture just before we started moving. Until I can format for size, you can view it here.
