[Wii] Nintendo Announces a Vague but Exciting Release Schedule

Apart from Nintendo talking about how much money they have made, they have actually come out with a sort of release schedule. What games are on this you ask? Some of Nintendo's hard-hitting 2010 titles no less. Keep in mind, this windows are for the Japanese release.
It does nothing more than simply change Metroid: Other M's date to a excitingly vague Summer 2010 as opposed to the previous painful TBA.
Apart from that they also added Xenoblade and The Last Story to their release slate. Nothing has been confirmed about these titles, but they are suspected to be renamed versions of Monado: Beginning of the World and Cosmic Walker (both of which have been dropped from release schedules).
Apart from these changes, and the fact that The Legend of Zelda Wii was listed as TBA for Japan (and no other regions) the schedule is looking like it'll start falling into place.

[Wii] Satoru Iwata Dismissed iPad and 3D Technology

Most of the internet is now aware of Apple’s new(-ish) product, the iPad, and although it hasn’t been receiving much in the way of positive feedback there is one person in particular who is less than impressed by it. Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo, has pitched his two cents on the iPad topic, and his comment is one of dismissal.
“It was a bigger iPod Touch”, Iwata told Associated Press, adding that the new device offered “no surprises”.
So, who out there is surprised by what Iwata has said? Nintendo themselves being prone to making similar moves (Game Boy Micro, Nintendo DSi LL), does Iwata have any leg to stand on with his opinion?
He also spoke about the recent hype surrounding 3D technology and the constant rumours that Nintendo are readying a high definition re-design of their money-printing Nintendo Wii. When asked about 3D technology he said, “I have doubts whether people will be wearing glasses to play games at home. How is that going to look to other people?” Then when asked about the rumours of the new Wii he said, “I question whether those features would be enough to get people to buy new machines”.
Nothing out of the ordinary for Nintendo here though, and perhaps he does have a point.

[PS3] God of War III Release Date Confirmed

After first providing a very vague March release window, it has finally been confirmed on Sony's own blog that God of War III will be launching on the 16th of March. So now the date is set in stone, how do you plan on leading up to it? Will you reply the original God of War titles in the Collection? Will you tackle Chains of Olympus on the PSP? Or will you look into Greek Mythology to see just what Gods Kratos will be going up against?
Either way, now we have a date all that is left is the wait.

Gearbox Software has confirmed a third piece of downloadable content for the popular First-Person Shooter, Borderlands, and it is indeed the expansion that is set to raise the original title's level cap.
As of this stage no date or price has been released, but Gearbox have said it is aiming for this DLC to challenge players "from around level 34 to level 50" and will also include a massive new environment to explore filled with punishing, brutal new enemies.
It will also introduce new vehicles and mechs (presumably as enemies). Stay tuned for future details.

[PS3] Nikkei Reports '10 or so' PS3 Motion Games For This Year

Sony's motion controller for the PS3 has been delayed until fall, however this hasn't stopped reports rolling in about titles that will utilise it. Whilst we do not have certain names for titles yet, Nikkei has reported that apparently there are '10 or so' titles on the way this year alone. Amongst these 10 titles is a sport title and a pet-raising title (the pet-raising title is highly likely to be EyePet which was delayed in North America even though it released in Europe last year).
When a Sony rep was questioned on this matter last year by Destructoid, he had quite a long awkward pause before giving in with a simple "maybe."
So Sony fans looking forward to waving their arms around can look forward to Fall 2010.

[Wii, PS2] Climax Willing To Do Another Silent Hill

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is the newest title in the Silent Hill franchise, and although it hasn't been out very long Climax Studios are already willing to commit to another installment. In a recent interview with the Official Nintendo Magazine, Sam Barlow (lead designer of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories), has said they'd love to do another installment if they get a chance.
He goes on to say, "we've always loved working on the series. Since Origins we've spent a lot time with the series. For us, we felt we've put our stomp on the series with Shattered Memories so we'd love the opportunity do another one." He added, "So everyone go and buy it!"
Granted, he can not be held responsible for trying to push people into selling it. But perhaps Silent Hill has done its dash? Since Silent Hill 3 the series has been the victim of a decline, and even though Shattered Memories was a return to form, the games short length was a certain disadvantage.

[PS3, X360, Wii, DS] Marvelous Stops Overseas Distrubition, Licensing Only Now

According to sources, Marvelous is citing lower than expected sales in the West combined with difficult market conditions to explain why they are cutting off their distribution to the Western world. Originally, their plan was to have a worldwide presence, and distribute their games as such however this appears to have fallen through.
They have announced today that they have sold their 50% stake in Rising Sun Games (a studio they helped set up) and are switching to a licensing model only. What this means for the rest of the world is that now companies such as Atlus, Ubisoft, Ignition, Xseed, and now Rising Star Games will all have the ability to bid for the right to distribute the games amongst the Western world. For those who are not quite aware of Marvelous' presence, they create Harvest Moon, Luminous Arc, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, and No More Heroes.
Although No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle has no Japanese release date yet, the game will be releasing in North America thanks to Ubisoft. Another Marvelous title called Deadly Premonition (for the XBox 360) will be released by Ignition. The downside is that now the future of the No More Heroes port on PS3 and 360 is up in the air, as it will require a publisher now. And Ubisoft has already said they have no interest in it.

[PS3, X360] Rumour: Final Fantasy XIII DLC Not Planned, But Possible

Recently we reported that a whole game's worth of content had been dropped from Final Fantasy XIII. Now there are rumour's surfacing that DLC could be on its way. At least, it could possibly be on its way. In a rumoured interview with the latest issue of the Official Playstation Magazine, Yoshinori Kitase comments on the situation.
In the interview he is asked if the Western versions will differ from the Japanese version. To which his response is, "at first we had plans to release the game simultaneously worldwide, so we had the intention to deliver identical version between the regions. When we noticed that we wouldn't make it, we decided to release the game as fast as possible in the west after its release in Japan. We initially had doubts to add extra content to the western version but then it would have taken the international version more months of delay. We did prepare a DLC but it will arrive a little later in the west."
However, there is also a conflicting report (and quote) that apparently comes from an Ultima Guide for the soon to be released title. In this version he comments saying that they are not currently planning to release any DLC.
Now, either Kitase is throwing up the ultimate smokescreen or one of these two sources are incorrect. At this stage its difficult to tell, but we'll be sure to update you when it is confirmed either way.

[360, PS3, Wii] FIFA World Cup 2010

The world's largest single sport event is taking place this year in South Africa. The 2010 FIFA World Cup. EA have today announced that they will, once again, be providing the official game of the tournament.
The game will include all 199 teams that took part in qualification for the tournament, this means you can play as the giants of the world stage such as Brazil and Italy or even some of the lesser known nations such as Andorra. All 10 of the official 2010 World Cup stadiums will be available to play in as well as a selection of stadiums used in qualification from around the world.
The features include a World Cup mode where you can choose any of the 199 teams and take them through their regional qualifying groups and onto the World Cup itself where you can take your team all the way to a virtual reproduction final and possible glory. And for a first time in the series you can take this journey online and choose your nation and battle online against opponents from all over the world to take your team through qualifying and to the World Cup itself. You can help crown your team the EA FIFA World Cup 2010 champions. For those of you familiar with the yearly FIFA games I'm expecting this online mode to work like the Interactive League in the previous two installments, you choose a team and play their real life fixtures each week against an online opponent and winning will earn your team points and collectively everyone who plays will help their team move up the table.
Gameplay improvements include strategies for home and away legs, in-game situation tactics and altitude effects that range from player fatigue to how the ball will travel in the air.
The Nintendo Wii will be receiving their own edition of the World Cup which has promised to have 'an art style that celebrates the cultural vibrancy of the first FIFA World Cup to be held in Africa'. The game will have all 32 teams taking part in the 2010 FIFA World Cup and have an exclusive mode, named after the official mascot of the tournament, Zakumi's Dream Team mode where you start with a selection of random players and by completing challenges and winning games you build and strengthen your team until you're the best there is.
I played the 2006 FIFA World Cup game on the Playstation 2 that was produced by EA and instantly became a huge fan. It built upon FIFA 06 and produced an excellent example of how to produce a licensed sporting game. I'm already a giant fan of FIFA 10 and I'm hoping EA can capture the magic of the World Cup and deliver another great installment when the title is released on April 27th in North America and April 30th in Asia and Europe.

[PS3] Bayonetta Receiving an Update on PS3

Some of you may have heard of a little title called Bayonetta, and the fact that although it released for both the Playstation 3 and the XBox 360. There was a clear difference as to which of the two versions was better. Well, Sega are taking a step to try and close the gap, Playstation 3 owners have been having some trouble with awful loading times and as a result an update is on the way to change this.
The update will release on January 28, and will allow Playstation 3 owners to install the game to their hard-drive. It automatically installed on the XBox 360 as with most titles, so it is somewhat confusing as to why it didn't have an install option at launch.
Hopefully this will change some gamers experience with the confusingly fun title.
