Iwata Not Bothered About Wii Remote Rivalry
Posted by: Snake  - 05-03-2008 03:50 AM - Replies (8)
Not so long ago, rumours flooded the Internet that claimed Microsoft would be creating a new motion-sensing controller, much like the Wii Remote. I suppose this is the logical step forward for Microsoft; Sony has the Six Axis controller, and Nintendo has its magic wand. But it appears that Nintendo don't feel threatened by the Wii Remote rivalry. Here's what Nintendo's President Satoru Iwata had to say on the matter:

"We are not concerned about what other companies may do," Iwata claimed. "We're rather more concerned with presenting... new ideas to our customers based on the prospect that our existing customers will surely get tired of gameplay enabled by the Wii Remote if we do not try to improve the experience."

So, overall, a big resounding 'Meh' from Iwata. Nintendo are doing better than ever now, can the competition slow them down?

WiiLoaded Podcast #2
Posted by: Kindrik  - 04-28-2008 12:09 AM - Replies (39)
What? You didn't think that just because it has been nearly 10 months since our last podcast that the WiiLoaded podcast was dead did you? Well here to start a much needed fire under the WiiLoaded podcast are Dume (Nathan) and Kindrik (Marko).

So let's get a few things out of the way. The sound quality is pretty terrible, we know. Cut us some slack considering it's been almost a year since we've done this and the whole idea of putting together a podcast came pretty suddenly and we're still working on things. Eventually you guys will hear it the same way that we hear each other.

So, in this the second of the (yearly?) WiiLoaded podcasts we discuss Mario Kart Wii, Okami, Guitar Hero, Smash Bros., and Metroid Prime along with some DS topics of Guitar Hero and The World Ends With You sprinkled along. It's an hour full of awesome. It would be a good idea to maybe wear headphones and/or turn up your volume as you listen so that you will be able to hear Dume/Nathan speak. Later on things become a bit clearer and again we apologize for the quality.

We hope this will be the beginning of more regular WiiLoaded podcasts in the future and we also wouldn't mind some input from all of you. If you have any questions or anything you'd like us to discuss we would love it if you'd send an email to podcast@wiiloaded.com. Aside from that there's not much to mention, just sit back, (listen closely) and enjoy.

Wii Fit Selling 90 Per Minute
Posted by: ZeldaFan  - 04-27-2008 06:23 PM - Replies (31)
A few days ago the anticipated work out game called Wii Fit was released in the UK. Just a little bit after the game was launched, the store called Woolworths claimed that they were selling this game at a rate of 90 copies per minute! The title was so anticipated that Woolworths says that people were already gathering outside of their store early in the morning just so they could make sure that they got their hands on a copy.

Apparently there were lots of eager people in the UK ready to work out early in the morning on the 25th. Here’s a question for you people living in the UK. Were you lining up in front of Woolworths so you could get your hands on this game?

Rumor: Metroid Prime Trilogy for the Wii? *Update*
Posted by: ManaBurnX  - 04-27-2008 01:36 PM - Replies (19)
Someone who works for a retailer that sells games has written that they have seen a new game listed in their game database.  That game is Metroid Prime Trilogy for the Nintendo Wii.  What is Metroid Prime Trilogy?  Well, Metroid Prime was the first 3D Metroid game and was released in November 2002 for the Nintendo Gamecube.  There was a lot of initial criticism of making the game 3D but after its release, Metroid Prime became a huge success and is still one of the all time greats.  The sequel, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, was released two years later also for the Nintendo Gamecube.  The sequel also garnered success and this would of course lead to another sequel.  The third game in the series and last part of the trilogy, Metroid Prime: Corruption was released for the Nintendo Wii in August of last year.  All three games have been successful and it would be reasonable to think that a game containing all three of the previous games would be successful too.

If this does indeed turn out to be real then you would have to wonder just how would they do it.  Would it be a package containing three discs, one for each game or would it be a double layered disc containing all three?  Since the first two can be played on a Wii already it would also be plausible to think that they would have some kind of upgrades, whether they were graphical or control wise, to separate them from their Gamecube versions.  Now I don't know if this is real or not but it would be great for people who never owned the Gamecube or never had the chance to play the first two.  What do you guys think?  Is this trilogy really going to materialize or is someone just toying with our emotions?

*UPDATE*  Nintendo has shot down this rumor but the people over at GoNintendo still believe their mole because he has been right so many times before.  Perhaps they're trying to keep it hush-hush by denying it?

Sega Superstars Tennis Bombs
Posted by: Alex51011  - 04-27-2008 09:00 AM - Replies (9)
When people heard that Sega would be releasing a tennis game along the lines of Mario Tennis; Sega fans were ecstatic. Everything was looking promising, other then the disappointment of no online for the Wii, the game was looking great. It brought together tons of Sega characters, from Sonic to NiGHTS.

Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately depending on how you see it, the game bombed horribly and sold next to no copies after a month of being on shelves. It just didn’t seem to live up to what it was promising. But now, the fortunate side to this is that GameStop has slashed it down from it’s $49.99 standpoint to a bewilderingly cheap $19.99.

So if you’re into those sorts of games, or just want to get a new game cheap, then head on in to your nearest GameSpot or EB Games and pick this up! It’s definitely worth it, hence it being only a month old, so if you have the extra money go pick it up.

Toys R Us Having a 50% Off Sale
Posted by: ManaBurnX  - 04-27-2008 08:47 AM - Replies (6)

There are various Wii games out there just begging to be picked up but for one reason or another they aren't selling.  There are many reasons why a game might not sell.  Sometimes it's due to a game being unknown or unheard of.  It might be a new publisher or a new franchise.  Sometimes it's because the game just isn't designed well or is unappealing.  It could be a port of an older game with tacked on controls that handle loosely.  However, more often than not, it could be that the game is too expensive.  It might be too expensive overall or it might be that you feel the game isn't worth the price they're asking for.

Maybe you've had your eye on a couple of games but haven't had enough money to pick them up.  Perhaps you are just too damn stingy to part with your cash to buy certain games.  Well if you're strapped for cash then you should know that right now Toys R Us is having a 50% off sale on select Nintendo Wii titles.  They're also selling the guide for Mario Kart Wii due out tomorrow so you can get a heads up on all the hints, tips, and unlockables. So be sure to check out the titles that are on sale and see if any of them tickle your fancy.

Softcore Gamers

The highly popular newspaper,  New York Times, has recently taken a step into the video game industry with a look into the top selling video game consoles sales. That console is of course the Nintendo Wii, which is selling out every week still and is now in over 20 million of our homes, but there is a problem with the Wii according to Jeff Muskuss, a New York Times journalist.

The Wii has enjoyed success which over shadows its competition in the market but while Wii is selling consoles the 360 and PS3 are selling games. The Wii is gathering a reputation as a family and party console. The hardcore Nintendo audience is depleting as lack of games for their hunger aren't coming and those that do sell poorly.

Figures have shown that only 6 games have made the top 10 sales list that are for the Wii console. The obvious 3 are of course No More Heroes, Zack and Wiki and Brawl. Only one of them being a critical hit with that being Brawl whose sales dropped 90% in recent weeks. The other three titles were Super Mario Galaxy, Guitar Hero 3 and Wii Play. Galaxy was another hit game being well received by all, but the mini game compilation Wii Play is still dominating sales and as for Guitar Hero 3 for Wii it sold 2.2 million with the 360 version receiving 2.8 million sales but the Playstation received over 5 million sales between PS2 and PS3. The Wii version lacked features such as downloadable content because of its online service being far behind...

With Wii Fit about to hit our shelves soon is it about time for the Hard core gamers to realize Nintendo doesn't care or will they stay strong and hope Nintendo can conjure up a winner? Or should New York Times journalists just leave video games alone? Is all of this to be expect from the cheapest and most innovative console? That’s all up to you.

North American Virtual Console Release April 28, 2008
Posted by: Wii_Rulez  - 04-26-2008 07:50 PM - Replies (5)
Only one title is being released on the Virtual Console this Monday. It's none other than the fighter Double Dragon, which PAL received this past Friday. Titles releasing by themselves seems to be popular for this week because Wii's weekly games aren't plentiful this week either.

Double Dragon (NES - 500 Wii Points)
Finally the NES conversion of the hit arcade game Double Dragon is here! The game follows twin brothers, Billy and Jimmy Lee, both trained in the martial art of Sou-Setsu-Ken. They run a small school teaching others in the art of Sou-Setsu-Ken for self defence. Billy's girlfriend, Marian, is kidnapped and the brothers find a note from Willy (leader of the 'Black Warriors' gang) telling them to reveal their fighting secrets in exchange for Marian's life. The brothers set out across the city fighting bad guys to save Marian!

Another of the original hit beat 'em ups that lead to the likes of Final Fight is here. Using basic kicks and punches as well as elbow strikes and weapons has became a cult hit. Movement was left to directional buttons while attacks were handled by the face buttons.

If You Like This
Final Fight (SNES, 800 Wii Ponts)
River City Ransom (NES, 500 Wii Points)
Eternal Champions (Sega Genesis, 800 Wii Points)

Coming Soon
In the coming weeks, the Virtual Console will be getting lots of variety. Staying with the fighting genre, you will soon be able to have fights in the streets of Brooklyn in the NES title Renegade for 500 Wii Points. If flying simulators is more of your thing then Aerofighters Assault or the original Pilotwings are the games designed for you; which are only 1000 and 800 WiiPoints respectively. For the fans of the pink puff ball, Kirby's Dreamland 3 will be arriving soon for only 800 Wii Points in order for you to save Dreamland once again and figure out what has gotten into King Dedede.

Wiikly Releases April 27, 2008
Posted by: Wii_Rulez  - 04-26-2008 06:59 PM - Replies (9)
This week has to be one of the worst for new Wii titles. Europe and Australia are left out in the cold with titles not scheduled until May 2008. Australia only has two titles for the month of may and the rest is TBA June. On the other hand North American is finally getting Mario Kart Wii last, but not least. At least now all regions can race against each other in Nintendo's racer.

North America
Only one title is out this week for North America or anywhere else for that matter and it's Mario Kart Wii. Nintendo's sixth instalment of the franchise finally makes its way to North Americans. The game features a total of 33 all stars from the Mario universe, both old and new. There are 16 retro tracks from previous instalments and 16 new ones with some influences from the most recent Mario outing. Mario Kart Wii's online lets you compete against 11 other players in battles or races to keep you behind the wheel.
  • Mario Kart Wii - April 27

Coming Soon
In the coming weeks more innovative titles will be available for your Wii. Majesco's BlastWorks: Build, Trade, Destroy will have you creating weapons, and destroying enemies; all while maintaining your base. Steven Spielberg’s Boom Box takes physics based puzzlers to a whole new level. Also Nintendo will be launching WiiWare in North America with unique titles such as LostWinds, Gyrrostarr, Pokemon Farm, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King, and more.

Note: All dates are subject to change and may not remain the same as listed. Check with your local retailers to confirm dates.

Should It Be Called Rock Band Hero?
Posted by: ZeldaFan  - 04-26-2008 05:55 PM - Replies (13)
Guitar Hero really laid down the groundwork for what gaming is now in the music genre. But then add Rock Band to the picture, and now gamers don’t just don’t rock out with a guitar, but also with other instruments including the drums. Having Rock Band right next to Guitar Hero lays down some tough competition. So how will Activsion counter this move you ask? Well by expanding Guitar Hero of course.

Later this year when Guitar Hero IV is being released, it might be harder to tell Rock Band apart from Guitar Hero. In the May issue of Conde Nast Portfolio magazine, Activision’s CEO, Bobby Kotick, revealed some news of Guitar Hero’s future. “It's not just about guitars," Kotick says. "We'll include a lot of other instruments, like vocals. It will help us expand internationally. It's the first game we've had in which we can use local content and local bands." The bad news is that Activision hasn’t commented on this yet.

Now some people might worry about the possibility of a “de-guitarization” of Guitar Hero and focusing more on other instruments. Until Guitar Hero IV comes out, some die-hard Guitar Hero fans might be worrying in agony, or jumping up and down in joy.
