E3 08 Miyamoto Addresses Storage Issue
Posted by: Foxy  - 07-29-2008 09:35 AM - No Replies
Any Wii owner with an affinity for downloading Virtual Console or WiiWare games, and all of Nintendo's many channels is no doubt frustrated by Wii's diminutive 512 MB of storage. And with developers such as Vicarious Visions and SEGA bringing downloadable content to Wii it is certainly something that needs to change.

While it was incredibly disappointing not to hear even a murmur of some sort of storage device at Nintendo's media conference it is still encouraging to know that the company isn't completely ignoring the issue. Shigeru Miyamoto told IGN that "there isn't anything that we can announce today, but we have been thinking along a variety of different lines regarding this matter for some time now. So my hope is that sometime in the not too distant future we will be able to discuss some concrete solutions".

Even though we can't but feel that this problem should have been taken care long before the system launched we desperately want some sort of solution. While this could be anything from a USB attachment, to preferably opening up the SD slot through firmware updates which would require no money be spent by the consumer we'll just have to wait and see what Nintendo has in mind. So know this everyone, it may be late but a fix is coming.

E3 08 Zelda Wii is in development
Posted by: Foxy  - 07-29-2008 09:33 AM - No Replies
Not entirely a huge surprise when you consider that Iwata mentioned that the teams behind Mario and Zelda were hard at work on new games stopping just short of confirming that they were in fact working on games in the Mario and Zelda series and not new IPs. While speaking with IGN, Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that the next Zelda game on Wii is progressing and that development is under way.

While Miyamoto does not go further into detail about anything that we may just see in this new Zelda he lets us know that there's fairly large and talented team working on the product as the Zelda DS team (responsible for Phantom Hourglass) is working together with the console Zelda team for the next game on Wii. While we shouldn't expect changes as drastic as a first person perspective (an experiments shown at GDC 2007) Miyamoto did concede that "Zelda is a franchise that does need some big new unique ideas, and so the team right now is very focused on trying to find those ideas".

E3 08 Mario Super Sluggers Trailer

Today during Nintendo's E3 Media briefing we got a glimpse at the new Mario Super Sluggers game for Wii. Above is a trailer of the game that was played during the conference. The game looks like an upgrade of Wii Sports Baseball game. which is good as that was a fun game. It looks like they've also thrown in some Mario Party-esque mini games. So far it's looking good!

E3 08 $29.99 for Wii Speak
Posted by: Foxy  - 07-29-2008 09:30 AM - No Replies
Anyone who was hoping that the newly announced Wii peripheral, WiiSpeak, would be packed in with Animal Crossing: City Folk should stop now. As we're all aware Nintendo like to make money and this situation is no different. According to a press release, the WiiSpeak microphone will be sold on its own for $29.99. This isn’t too bad considering Microsoft’s MSRP for its official Xbox 360 Wireless Headset is $59.99.

It would have been nice to get this bundled with the latest Animal Crossing game, but beggars can't be choosers. Let's just be grateful Nintendo finally woke up and realised that communication is a big part of the online gaming world. Who thinks the price is too high? Who thinks it's just right? Share your opinion!

E3 08 Mario and Zelda teams hard at work
Posted by: Foxy  - 07-29-2008 09:24 AM - No Replies
After such a disappointing show from Nintendo this year I'm sure many of you are cursing them already. Where was our Zelda trailer we wanted? It was nowhere to be seen, but now I am here to restore a tiny bit of hope. Nintendo's president, Satoru Iwata insists that the Mario and Zelda teams are "both hard at work" on "new titles". When will we see these games? Sadly, no more hints or clues were given...not even a wink.

E3 08 New Wii Music Details
Posted by: Foxy  - 07-29-2008 09:22 AM - No Replies
Wii Music was one of the very few Nintendo titles shown at E3 this year, so here are some new details. First of all, we know the game is coming this year and will include more than 50 different virtual instruments for you to play with. The Wii Balance Board is also supported for certain instruments. Using it as a pedal for the drums is just one way it can be incorporated into gameplay.

Wii Music was created with people who lack the ability to play to play real instruments in mind, so that they can "experience the joy of making music," as well. You won't be required to do any note reading and the game won't rate your performances. Another cool feature that is included with Wii Music that will allow you to record gameplay videos. Who plans on picking this up?

E3 08: Wii Sports Resort
Posted by: Foxy  - 07-29-2008 09:21 AM - No Replies
Wii Sports was the original game to show off what the Wii was all about, and did it very well. Even until this day no other company has managed to create a superior clone. Now Nintendo has a follow up; Wii Sports Resort! The theme this time around is Beach games and will come packaged with Nintendo's new peripheral, Wii Motion Plus.

We were treated to three different new sports (each with their own demo); Disc dog, Jet Ski and sword-jousting. I have to say, that last one looked like a lot of fun! Finally we have a sword type game that uses true 1:1 controls. Expect to see Wii Sports Resort next Spring! Who's buying it?

E3 08: Wii Speak
Posted by: Foxy  - 07-29-2008 09:19 AM - No Replies
We all expected Animal Crossing to appear at E3 this year, but what we didn't see coming was WiiSpeak. WiiSpeak is a peripheral that sits on top of your Television and will allow you to chat to your friends online while playing Animal Crossing! The demonstration showed four players hanging around their town while "Wii Speaking" to each other. Finally Nintendo has made the jump and hopefully other games will put the peripheral to good use.
