Mario Kart Cheat Allows Unlimited Blue Shells
Posted by: Snakey  - 09-01-2008 11:30 AM - Replies (23)

View this on YouTube

The video above contains every Mario Kart players' worst nightmare, a cheat that allows the user to fire an unlimited amount of blue shells! Imagine the chaos if every single player could fire one of those, very annoying, blue shells every few seconds? Yeah, it's a scary thought. Well, luckily, the guy responsible for this cheat will not be handing out the code. What a relief! Although, I wouldn't mind trying this out...just for the fun of it.

IGN Have Nothing But Grace for "Skate It"
Posted by: TheCosmicFrog  - 08-28-2008 11:10 AM - Replies (4)
It would seem that IGN are impressed with the latest build of EA's skating sim Skate It. Having already displayed their liking for the Wii control scheme in the game, this time IGN got to taste a sample of the Skate It story mode.

"Having spent a good amount of time completing objectives in San Vanelona and other areas in the game, we're quite impressed with how Skate It plays and the wealth of gameplay on offer."

Daemon Hatfield, IGN Wii

I honestly don't have much experience with EA's skate. series, other than the PlayStation Network demo. If the Wii version of the game can pull it off with IGN, however, it may just tickle me as a useful purchase. The biggest "pull" of Skate It is perhaps the photo challenges, which offer the player the chance to capture all of their "uber-phat skittles" (excuse the skate-speak) with a screenshot, taken by photographer "Reda", himself a large part of the story.

Details of the story mode so far are pretty slim, but we do know that San Vanelona, the city which your skater resides in, is destroyed by a natural disaster, opening up many, many more skating opportunities and hotspots than the previous iteration of the series.

IGN are, without a doubt, impressed with the Wii version's "FlickIt" control scheme. They claim that any trick in your repertoire is only a "flick of your wrist" away, steamrolling over any cynicism previously held for Skate It's motion controls. I have to show my own enthusiasm for the Wii Balance Board control scheme, having splashed out on Wii Fit a few months ago. If EA have mastered the Balance Board's functions, then it should make for an appealing game!

The "MySpots" feature seems heavily inspired by Activision's "Tony Hawk's Proving Ground", where the player can choose to customize his own spots in the wreckage of San Vanelona. I won't reject it until I play it, however. If the MySpots feature is as polished as the rest of the game, then surely there's no reason to downplay it.

Skate It is launching for Nintendo Wii and DS this Fall.

Activision Thinking Of Charging A Subscription Fee For Guitar Hero?
Posted by: ZeldaFan  - 08-27-2008 09:18 PM - Replies (7)
It has been well known that some game developers love to squeeze every little bit of cash from your poor wallets. Well, Activision might be taking this idea to a whole new level.

If you go over to IGN and take a peek at the Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero: World Tour, you’ll see a little blurb with an asterisk. It reads: "*Online gameplay is only available for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system and Wii and may require an additional subscription."

Could this have something to do with Activision’s comment at GC 2008 about paying for the ability to upload more of your own custom tracks, or is Activision just going to be charging an annual fee? Right now nothing is known for sure, so this is still open for debate.

Core Gamers Will Have To Wait
Posted by: ZeldaFan  - 08-26-2008 07:54 PM - Replies (25)
Hardcore gamers all remember the events that unfolded at E3 2008. Wii Music, Wii Sports Resort, Animal Crossing: City Folk, and more. Clearly, games to appeal to hardcore gamers were unfortunately absent. Just hearing that presumably the Mario, Zelda, and Pikmin teams were hard at work developing the new games wasn’t enough.

Nintendo now wants to reassure us again that games for core gamers will be coming, but not soon. "We have developers working on popular core gaming franchises but we need longer to complete [them], approximately two to three years," the company stated in the latest issue of Edge, before adding that none will be ready to launch in early 2009.

This is obviously upsetting to many gamers around the world that love Nintendo. Feel free to post your anguished cries below.

Dojo Update: Celebrating Obsessive Brawlers
Posted by: ZeldaFan  - 08-23-2008 08:10 AM - Replies (13)
For the second time after the Dojo said there would be no more updates, they released an update. This update though isn’t about any hidden items, characters, stages, ect. This one revolves around those who are insanely good at Target Test and Home Run Contest.

People around the world sent in their Target Test and Home Run Contest replays through Wi-Fi to Nintendo, and then they compiled the best records into one list. One shows the fastest times for each Target Test level, and the character that broke that record. The Dojo also does the same for the Home Run Contest. Be sure to check them out, some are amazing. Target Test Level One: Olimar with 3.98 seconds. Home Run Contest: Ganondorf with 7435.9 feet. And it just gets crazier in co-op.

So if you have put Brawl aside and you like breaking records like this, you might want to start playing again. The Dojo says it will update the list again when it gets more entries. Of course, only you will know it’s your time because there are no names listed.

Guitar Hero's Mii Freestyle Mode Explained
Posted by: ZeldaFan  - 08-22-2008 09:22 AM - Replies (8)
The Wii version of Guitar Hero: World Tour is going to be getting a little surprise. Vicarious Visions has confirmed that the Wii version will not only have all the same content and features as the PS3 and 360 version, but will have an extra "Mii Freestyle" mode.

Now many of you are probably thinking, “well, just putting Mii’s in Guitar Hero isn’t that great of a feature.” Well that is not the case here.

Mii Freestyle mode is actually an exclusive game mode were you can make music on the fly by using Guitar Hero guitars or drums. What is also interesting is that you can create music by using the Wiimote and Nunchuck as air drums, Wii Music style.

When you get to the composing part of this mode, the instruments will lay down predetermined notes or sequences based off the style of music chosen. Vicarious Visions' David Nathanielsz calls the mode "a helpful bridge between the core game and the Music Studio in Guitar Hero: World Tour for Wii owners."

Now Guitar Hero for Wii will really be rocking due to the fact that it has all the modes the other versions have, plus an exclusive mode. The only thing now that the other versions have for them is the better graphics, which don’t really matter in a music game. Unless due to some unfortunate bug, Guitar Hero: World Tour for Wii should come out to be the superior version.

‘Wii Pay & Play’ Confirmed For Guitar Hero: World Tour
Posted by: ZeldaFan  - 08-21-2008 08:54 PM - Replies (15)
A few months ago many Nintendo fans started saving their cash when Nintendo announced its Pay for Play service. While this hasn’t taken effect in many big name games, it soon will be in Guitar Hero: World Tour.

When GH4 was revealed, Activision made it known that the Wii version would have downloadable content. Gamers didn't know how they would be able to take more money from them, but now we know due to the box art. Clearly, in the box art revealed at the GC Leipzig you can see the Pay for Play logo in the upper left-hand corner. So start saving your money if you are going to be one of those gamers that want extra content. But we should be happy that we are at least getting downloadable content.

Igarashi: WiiWare Castlevania 'Might Be The Right Approach'
Posted by: ZeldaFan  - 08-18-2008 03:10 PM - Replies (7)
With the brand new Mega Man 9 coming out on WiiWare later this year, other game developers are thinking about bringing gaming back to its 2-D roots.

In an interview with Castlevania’s producer, Koji Igarashi, he showed interest of the possibilities of WiiWare. "With regards to WiiWare, I'm evaluating that right now, and to be honest, I think a 2D Castlevania game on WiiWare might be the right approach."

Igarashi also has previously said that he is interested in how things have turned out for Mega Man 9 and how that WiiWare is an interesting service.

This might get interesting if more game developers start backtracking a step and create more 2-D games. How does a new 2-D Zelda or Mario for WiiWare sound? Any takers?

The Speed Gamers Prime
Posted by: Foxy  - 08-17-2008 12:09 PM - Replies (16)

Remember a few weeks ago when a group of gamers (De ja vu for long time readers here) went out to beat Mario games in 42 hours? They hammered through them all (Including a 2 hour 70 star run of mario 64...and before that they done two. Yes Two! Zelda marathons which were for charity. Mainly for the Autism charity St Judes but they haven't stopped there...no, now they're back with a Metroid Marathons!

The Metroid marathon (For St Judes Cancer) it began at August 15th @ 6pm CST and they've been working hard and earned over $2,000 so far and they've got another 24 hours left to go!

The games they will be playing are (In order):

Metroid, Metroid Zero mission, Metroid II: Return of Samus, Metroid Prime1, Metroid Prime 2, Metroid Prime Hunters, Metroid Prime 3, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion.

And with each game they'll be giving away prizes ranging from clocks, posters and VC games. Just e-mail in and you'll have a chance, even I've won a prize. But for the people who have donated well they'll have a chance to win a signed copy of Metroid Prime 3. Signed by the developers of the game.

Like last time they'll be a variety of hosts and gamers, the gamers will play and hosts will talk to the watchers/read e-mails/eat caramel spoons and show off their awesome pants and hats.

They've beat all the games but with so much time left..they're doing repeats of some of the games on request of the people who donated to raise even more money! I can't stress enough how awesome this is and I would recommend you check it out right now!

More Balance Board and Zapper-Compatible Games On The Way From Sega
Posted by: ZeldaFan  - 08-16-2008 06:35 PM - Replies (4)
For those of you that have a Wii-Fit board or a Wii Zapper collecting dust out there, new games are on the way! Sega has some plans for these under-used peripherals, so you might want to dig them out of your closet sometime in the near future.

SEGA of America’s president Simon Jeffrey stated during an interview that Sega is a "fan of the Wii Zapper" and that their game Ghost Squad "keeps selling." He also revealed that "more Zapper games" are coming with the same "for the Wii Balance Board, although we have nothing announced yet."

This brings hope to those who bought the Zapper and Wii Fit, but now have no other games to use them with. Since Nintendo hasn’t really gone to great lengths with the Zapper, it’s like a breath of fresh air to see Sega hopefully starting the wave of games that are compatible with the Zapper.
